Sledding

Papa ist vor zwei Tagen auch endlich in Muenchen eingetroffen! Es ist super kalt draussen und heute haben wir alle bis zur Nasenspitze eingepackt und sind zum Schlittenfahren gegangen. Lily ist natuerlich nicht viel Schlitten gefahren, aber Emmi hatte so viel Spass! Lily hat heute morgen auch mal Schnee probieren duerfen!

Papa finally arrived in Munich two days ago! It is freezing cold outside (10 degrees Fahrenheit) and we bundled up today and took the kids sledding at the park. Lily didn't do much sledding obviously but Emmi had a blast. And Lily did enjoy taking a few tastes of snow earlier today.

More snow!

We finally got some snow in Munich too. Emmi's face lit up like Christmas morning when she woke up in the morning and saw all the snow that had fallen overnight. It's supposed to stay cold now, so maybe we'll get a white Christmas too!

Endlich hat es auch in Muenchen geschneit! Emmi's hat sich gefreut wie an Heiligabend als sie in der Frueh aufgestanden ist und den ganzen Schnee im Garten gesehen hat der in der Nacht gefallen ist. Vielleicht bekommen wir ja auch eine weisse Weihnacht!?

Adventskalender

Oma hat fuer Emmi, Lily und mich einen Adventskalendar gemacht und Emmi macht mit Begeisterung jeden morgen ihr Saeckchen auf. Heute konnte ich mein Saeckchen nicht finden und Emmi hat mich ganz besorgt angeschaut und dann gesagt "Nicht traurig sein Mama, du kannst eins von Lily haben!"

Oma made an Adventcalendar for Emmi, Lily and me with a little present to open every day. Emmi loves opening her little bag every morning at breakfast. Today I was looking for my bag and couldn't find it and Emmi looked at me real concerned and said "Don't be sad Mama, you can have one of Lily's!"

Snow at last!

We haven't had any snow in Munich yet. Since the snow doesn't seem to want to come to us we decided to go look for it. We didn't have to look too far and found some about an hour from Munich at the Austrian border. Emmi was so excited! We did some sledding, build a (small) snowmen and just had a great time.

Nachdem wir immer noch keinen Schnee in Muenchen hatten haben wir beschlossen nicht laenger zu warten und dem Schnee hinterherzufahren. An der Oesterreichischen Grenze sind wir dann fuendig geworden und Emmi war total begeistert. Wir sind gerodelt, haben einen kleinen Schneeman gebaut und hatten einen wunderschoenen Tag.

Saint Niklas Day

I love the German Tradition of Saint Niklas on December 6th and so did Emmi. In Southern Germany Saint Niklas leaves some treats in your shoes in the night of December 5th (I guess historically he is identical with Santa Clause). Emmi put her shoes outside in the evening before we went to bed and was so excited to find her treats in the morning. She was even more excited to meet Saint Niklas at a neighborhood party in the evening. She wasn't scared but she didn't care to get to close either ;)

Emmi war ganz begeistert vom Nikolaus. Sie hat am Abend vorher ihre Schuhe rausgestellt und sich dann ganz doll ueber ihre kleinen Geschenke gefreut. Am Abend hat sie dann auch noch den echten Nikolaus auf einer Nikolauf Feier getroffen. Angst hatte sie keine, zu nahe wollte sie aber dann auch nicht hingehen :)

The Girls

...are growing way to fast!!

LILY---

-is now pulling up on furniture / zieht sich alleine hoch

-is eating vegetables now / isst jetzt jeden Tag Gemuese

-still wakes up every two hours at night / wacht nachts immer noch alle zwei Stunden auf

-loves her Binky / liebt ihren Schnuller

-is still not really laughing but smiles all the time / lacht immer noch nicht richtig aber grinst die ganze Zeit

-cut her first two teeth this week / hat diese Woche ihre ersten zwei Zaehne bekommen

-loves to take a bath / liebt es zu baden

-doesn't care about baby toys but loves everything metall and shiny / sind Babyspielsachen voellig egal aber liebt alles was glaenzt

-can't go to sleep without holding Mama's hand / kann nicht einschlafen ohne Mama's Hand zu halten

EMMI

-is finally potty trained (again) / ist endlich (wieder) sauber

-speaks denglisch / spricht denglisch

-loves roleplaying with her dolls / spielt am liebsten Rollenspiele mit ihren Puppen

-cries if anyone except Mama tells her "no", doesn't care if Mama tells her "no"

weint wenn jemand ausser Mama "nein" sagt, ist es voellig egal wenn Mama "nein" sagt

-loves to blow out candles even pretend ones / liebt es Kerzen auszupusten

-can cry the biggest crocodile tears you have ever seen / Kann riesige Krokodilstraenen weinen

-tells everybody she is seven even though she knows she is two / erzaehlt jedem dass sie sieben ist, obwohl sie weiss dass sie zwei ist

-can only go #2 if nobody is watching / kann nur gross auf die Toilette gehen wenn keiner zuschaut

-loves to sing in public restrooms / liebt es in oeffentlichen Toiletten zu singen

Visiting Uroma & Uropa

We took a 6 day trip to Emmi and Lily's Greatgrandparents who live about an hour north of Berlin. We won't spend Christmas together since it is hard for my grandparents to travel to Munich, so we celebrated 1. of Advent together. Emmi loved playing with my 11 year old cousin Maxi, we took a carriage ride and just spend time together as a family. Uroma and Uropa were so happy to see Emmi again and finally meet Lily.

I actually attempted horseback riding for the first time in about 10 years and am happy to report that I successfully managed to hang on. Barely. The horse was flying down the trail and didn't care that I was pleading with him to slow down. I was quite sore the next day. My sister did a whole lot better I have to say.

Wir haben 6 Tage in Mecklenburg Vorpommern bei Emmi's und Lily's Urgrosseltern verbracht. Wir werden dieses Jahr nicht Weihnachten zusammen feiern da es schwer ist fuer meine Grosseltern so weit zu fahren, stattdessen haben wir zusammen den ersten Advent gefeiert. Emmi hatte viel Spass beim Spielen mit meinem 11 Jahre alten Cousar Maxi, einer Kutschfahrt und ganz vielen Tieren. Uroma und Uropa haben sich so gefreut endlich ihre juengste Urenkelin kennenzulernen.

Ich habe mich nach 10 Jahren zum ersten Mal wieder im Reiten probiert. Und ich bin stolz berichten zu koennen dass ich nicht im hohen Bogen im Dreck gelandet bin. Viel hat aber nicht gefehlt. Das Pferd ist den Feldweg entlang gallopiert und hat sich einen Dreck geschert dass ich es angebettelt hat anzuhalten. Ich muss zugeben meine Schwester hat eine viel bessere Figur gemacht.

A Walk in the Woods

Being back in Germany after quite a long time always makes me notice the things I miss and don't miss living far from home in Texas. One thing I definitely miss is being able to just walk into a forest, into an open field or just around some farm land without having to resort to a State Park or risk getting shot for entering private property. On the weekend we did just that and took the kids to explore around the woods. Emmi loved it! We collected some moss to set up the nativity scene at the house, Emmi found lots of different mushrooms and several forts kids had build out of sticks. We met a wild hog which actually scared us a little. And just had a great time walking around the woods.

We are in Germany!

We landed in Munich Wednesday morning after a long but fortunately uneventful flight. The girls did great with no major meltdowns! And we've been having a great time since...

Opa finally met his youngest granddaughter and it was love at first sight...

...Emmi's been enjoying the great outdoors (read: Oma & Opa's Backyard)...

...Lily has been showing off her new crawling skills...

...we are starting to get in the holiday spirit...

(even though there hasn't been any snow like Emmi hoped)

...and we've been around town already too.

Trick or Treat

Halloween war super lustig. Will und Audrey sind mit den Kindern zu unserem Haus gekommen und wir sind alle zusammen Trick or Treating gegangen. Emmi hat ziemlich schnell begriffen um was es geht. Ich durfte garnicht mit ihr zu den Haustueren kommen. Sie hat mir gleich gesagt ich soll weggehen. Allerdings hat sie glaub ich kein einziges Mal "Trick or Treat" gesagt, sondern einfach nur ihren Korb hingehalten sobald eine Tuer aufging. Sie hat einiges an Suessigkeiten eingesammelt, aber zum Glueck sind ihr die noch ziemlich egal ausser es handelt sich um Schokolade. Wir haben sie alles probieren lassen, sie hat aber nur ein bisschen Schokolade und Brause gegessen und wollte dann einen Apfel aus unserer Obstschale haben. Suess! Hoffe mal dass das die naechsten Jahre so bleibt :)

I love Halloween! It was so much fun this year. Will and Audrey came over with the kids and we took them Trick or Treat together. Emmi caught on pretty quick to what it was all about and actually to told me "No Mama, Go" when I tried to come with her to houses doors. I don't think she said "Trick or Treat" once, she just held her bucket out as soon as a door opened. She ended up with quite a bit of candy but luckily she isn't that big into candy yet unless it's chocolate. We let her try it all but she only ate smarties and some kind of Chocolate candy and then asked to eat an apple out of our fruit bowl. Love it! I am curious to see how next year goes ;)

Happy Halloween

Visiting Doe & Pa

Letztes Wochenende haben wir mal wieder Lily's und Emmi's Urgrosseltern in Rusk besucht. Doe hat vor sechs Wochen ein neues Kniegelenk bekommen und ist noch in einem Altenheim zur Reha. Ich war wirklich stolz auf meine zwei, in zwei Tagen haben wir 8 Stunden im Auto und 8 Stunden in einem Altenheim verbracht und wir sind Sonntag abend ohne Nervenzusammenbruch unsererseits wieder zuhause angekommen. Danke Emmi ;) . Die Zeit die wir nicht im Auto oder Altenheim waren haben wir dann dazu genutzt Doe & Pa's Felder und Waelder zu erforschen. Das fand Emmi toll!

We went and visited Greatgrandparents Doe and Pa last weekend. Doe had a Knee replacement six weeks ago and was still in a nursing home for reha. I was really proud of my two girls. In twoe days we spent 8 hours in the car and 8 hours in a nursing home and we made it back home Sunday night with everybody still in a good mood. Thank you Emmi! Doe and Pa were excited to see the kids. It was the first time they got to meet Lily! We used the rest of the time to explore around the fields and woods at Doe and Pas house, which Emmi loved!
